Become a regional host: take the lead role in your region to drive and promote GEW events and New Zealand entrepreneurial-ism.
What is a GEW regional host?
In the months leading up to Global Entrepreneurship Week, one or two host organizations in each region are responsible for galvanising the momentum of the national GEW campaign and rallying their networks to run events and promote activities throughout the area. Regional host organizations can include local government, not-for-profits, social enterprises, universities, schools, venture capitalists and private companies. GEW suggests each region have 2 hosts, with one being a tertiary educational institution. GEW NZ helps you to “match up” with an appropriate co-host in your region.
Why be a regional host?
Of the GEW hosts involved last year:
- 76% said GEW helped provide them with new and useful contacts.
- 74% of hosts said GEW helped to increase the profile of their events.
- 75% said GEW helped to increase the profile of their partners.
- 96% said championing the GEW compass gave their events an international feel.
- 90% said GEW made them feel part of an international movement.
- 85% of hosts said that events helped secure stronger political buy-in and funding to support entrepreneurship.
- 8,037 events involved a discussion around entrepreneurship and global issues.
- 833 events hosted international speakers.
- 95% said events helped improve public and media perception of entrepreneurship
- 100% said events helped participants consider entrepreneurship as a career choice.
Who can become a regional host
GEW represents entrepreneurship on a global, national, local and government level, organisations with experience in these levels are welcome to apply to become regional hosts, our preference is towards educational institutions and local government business development agencies. Business consultancies and service providers, incubators, and smaller agencies are welcome to apply.
Your rights as a regional host
GEW regional hosts are highly valued and recognized at all events within the region they represent, at national events and where possible, globally.
- You will be recognised as the official GEW representative for your region for 3 years.
- Logo placement on the GEW website homepage.
- Prime logo placement beside all listed events occurring in your region on the GEW website, events home page.
- Prime logo placement on the GEW website, overall regional page.
- You will be offered first rights to host any GEW associated global and national event or competition including:
- Start Up Weekend
- CleanTech Global Ideas Competition
- Where’s the book?
- The Great NZ Sports Innovation and Entrepreneurship forum and road show
- GEW global photo competition
- For any GEW events that you chose not to run but which occur in your region, you will be recognized as the regional host.
- You will hold an exclusive license to the GEW logo for marketing purposes, acknowledging your global outlook, and commitment to entrepreneurial-ism at the highest governmental and private sector levels.
- Regional hosts are formal representatives of GEW for all events occurring within their regional boundaries
- Anyone can run an event but your brand must appear at events occurring within your region
- you will be recognized in all print and online material and in media coverage of GEW in your region.
- You may attend any of the national GEW featured events.
What can you expect from GEW NZ as a regional host?
GEW NZ offers support, contacts, networking, access to renown NZ figures and global opportunities to our valued regional hosts
- Support and co-ordination for regional events.
- Liaison with GEW international for international media coverage of regional events, where possible.
- Approach of GEW New Zealand ambassadors (where available) to attend events in your region.
- Approach national and international spokespeople and personalities (where available) to support events in your region.
- Utilizing GEW’s established networks to promote regional events.
What we require of our regional hosts
As an official GEW NZ regional host you oversee any events occurring within your region. Regional GEW hosting is a low commitment, highly visible position. You commit to:
- Act as liaison between events run in your region and GEW NZ national office in Wellington.
- Promote and assist, where practical, event runners within your region in promoting media coverage of local GEW events, and securing speakers to these events within your region.
- Contribute a Regional Host licensing cost of $2,000 annually for a minimum three year commitment.This contribution goes entirely towards basic running costs to enable GEW NZ to run sustainably. GEW is a non-profit, non-political organisation.
